Dear Consumer,

Below you will find an excerpt of an actual response to serve as an open letter addressing concerns we often hear from the consumer about antibiotic and vaccine use, as well as feeds that aren't classified as "grasses."

Dear Consumer,

...As far as the value that our product has, I absolutely believe it is leagues ahead of store-bought, no matter the label you find at the grocer. That's the premise of our entire business. My husband and I raise our beef cattle here in the Parowan Valley. Our ranch has been in business since 1873 and we have what I would call a beautifully symbiotic relationship with our natural resources, and all that our ecosystem encompasses in this area. Our cattle graze on native pastures both in the valley and on mountain ranges.

This includes much more than just grasses.

To be honest, the idea of "grass fed" is really quite insufficient in our experience. Cattle that are truly grazing in a holistic manner will browse through upwards of 30 or more plants per day. They select from a plethora of grasses that can include seed heads (grains), but also shrubs, brushes, flowers, saplings, forbes, legumes, and more.

The digestive system of cattle is miraculous, and actually needs a variety of feeds in order to function at full potential. In fact, it's vital that they are given feeds called roughages that stimulate healthy rumen bugs  (beneficial bacteria, protozoa, and fungi), which leads to proper fermentation. For this reason alone, we find it necessary to look at the needs of the animal and their gut health first and foremost. Below, you will find specifics about what our cattle are fed when not grazing pastureland. But, we also look at the health of our land and our natural resources, and manage our cattle accordingly.

There are resting periods when our cattle are pulled off of grazing to allow the plant and soil life a resting period, as well as a time for seasonal dormancy. During these times our cattle are fed hay and other feedstuff that we grow in the Parowan Valley. The rations we feed our cattle vary depending on their nutritional needs, and the time of year, but can include; grass hay, wild peas, oats, winter wheat, triticale, corn silage (ensiled/fermented corn plant), haylage (ensiled/fermented hays), dry land alfalfa, straw, pro and pre-biotics, mineral, local salt, and sometimes molasses.

As far as labeling, our products won't be classified as "Organic," "Pasture Raised," or even "Natural." I believe the current meat labeling system to be a sham. I am confident that our product is as healthy as, and even more healthy, than what is labeled as "Organic," "Pasture Raised," and "Natural" in the store.

As for vaccinations, we do not use the mRNA vaccine that is being touted right now, nor do we have plans to ever use it. We are staunch believers in private property and individual freedom rights, and are not interested in government overreach in any sense of the word. However, with that same freedom to choose, we do believe that we have the right to do what we deem healthy for our animals and we will absolutely address their health needs them when they aren't capable of doing so themselves.

Our medical treatment options can include; antibiotics, vaccinations, vitamins, colostrum, pro and pre-biotics, and parasite control... when needed. We believe we are stewards of these animals and when we notice malaise, we assess the situation and will readily step in. It's our sacred duty. As a matter of fact, I am quite staunch in my belief that people who raise animals and refuse to treat with these medications so that they may reap higher profits under a label such as "No Antibiotics Ever" are quite inhumane themselves.

If you'd like more info, please see our website, or peruse our social media. Find reviews aplenty on all platforms. We are very open about our business, our practices, and ourselves and want a strong relationship with you, built on trust and understanding.

We stand by our beliefs that we are growing some of the highest quality beef in the United States, while truly caring for the whole animal, the land, our natural resources, and the consumer.
